HP ceased the HP TouchPad tablet almost two years ago, only a few months after the launch of 9.7-inch tablet operating on WebOS software. While that indicates WebOS isn’t exactly a boring platform but if all moves according to the plan, a self-sufficient team of developers could present a major update for the ceased HP TouchPad: The capacity to run Android apps as condition they were actually running native WebOS apps.

WebOS never have been as accepted as iOS, Android or yet Windows Mobile. The Palm and HP did turn up with some exciting concepts together with a powerful multitasking system, a great email client and a universal search device.

Unluckily the platform was seized back by a chicken and egg dilemma: There were not a lot of bulky third party apps for WebOS because of quite small user support and the proposal didn’t develop as many users like some other mobile OS.

Over the past few years hackers have initiate a way just about this by developing tools that allow you to load Google Android on this HP TouchPad. This success let you access to the Google Play Store and select from hundreds and thousands of apps, the majority of which run pretty nice on the TouchPad’s 1024 x 768 pixel display with 1.2-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual-Core processor. Now you lose the capacity to use WebOS apps whilst you are running the complete Android OS on a TouchPad.

Phoenix International Communications have working to keep WebOS active as an OS for tablets and phones and this team recently aligned with OpenMobile to dock that company’s Application Compatibility Layer (ACL) to operate on WebOS. This permits to download and install Android apps as but they were local apps for another proposal.

Ever since the WebOS UI is a bit unusual from Android’s, you will notice the Android home and menu buttons whilst running an Android app using ACL. You will also be competent to launch apps within WebOS and control apps or close those using local WebOS actions like swiping away a tag to shut an app.

Now at this point the working alpha of ACL for HP TouchPad is available but to complete this project, Phoenix is enchanting to Kickstarter in hopes of lifting $35,000 or more to facilitate fund the rest of the required development.

If the aim is succeeded and time limits are kept, this team hopes to launch ACL for the TouchPad near about July, 2013.

At this point now there are no plans to propose ACL for other gadgets or for docks of the new untie WebOS software also for other phones or tablets. As for this now ACL needs to be integrated for the hardware it operates on and the team is running to bring it to the HP TouchPad now.

HP_TouchPad Hands on Review

There are a lot of TouchPad users here, while HP canceled this hardware due to lethargic sales in summer 2011. HP coped to sell millions of units after ripping the price from $499 to $99.

Then at this point, it might look a little odd to increase money so you can operate new apps on a tablet operating an OS that has not been restructured much in 2 years. So the HP TouchPad is yet a pretty straight tablet with a quite speedy processor with iPad-sized display screen and an exclusive OS that still actually appeal to some individuals.

I am pressing the publish button for this post, the Kickstarter promotion raised over $4,000 in undertakings from more than 100 people.
